All I want for Christmas is… a pair of goats?

This Christmas season, our youth group is going to be doing something a little bit different… we’re raising money to buy some goats!

We are partnering with an amazing organization called Heifer International.  They get money from donors, and use it to buy different animals for families in third world countries.  This is even better than standard monetary donations, because families can use these animals as a source of income to better their lives!

Our goal is to raise enough money to buy a pair of dairy goats for a family.  These goats will produce several gallons of milk a day for a family.  What the family doesn’t consume, they can sell at market.  A pair of goats usually has 2-3 kids at a time, so they will also be able to increase production or sell the offspring.

We can give one goat to a family for $120, and Wes and Candice will match what the teens bring in so that we can buy a pair of goats as a youth group if you guys can raise that $120.

We will take money for this all the way up until our Christmas party, so start bringing in an offering so we can bless a family with a way to lift themselves out of poverty!

On Friday, October 30th, the youth group is going to have a great Halloween Fall Event!

We will meet at the teen center at 6:30 PM, form into teams, and leave at 7pm from there to have our scavenger hunt.  Teams will be required to be back at the teen center at 9pm to be scored.

After we have a winner, we will end the night with snacks and a Halloween Fall movie of some kind.  We should wrap up around 11pm or so.

I need help from parents for this event.  You can help out in any of the following ways:

  • Be a team leader- this basically means you drive where the teens tell you to to accomplish their goals
  • Let us borrow your car- if you don’t want to be a team leader, we could still use your vehicle- especially if it holds a lot of people
  • Let us borrow your video camera- if you want to make sure your teen keeps your camera, I can arrange that.

Teenagers will NOT be able to drive themselves or any other car for this event.  You must be in a car with an adult driving.  No exceptions.

Also, I will have a signup for the next week.  I need to know before hand how many teens will be participating so I can be sure to have enough drivers and cameras.  If you aren’t at church to sign up, email me at youthpastorwes@gmail.com to let me know if you will be there.

You can also sign up on the facebook event page here.

This will be really fun, and I appreciate everyone’s involvement!

Service Time Change

Starting on Wednesday, November 4th, the entire church will begin starting their Wednesday evening services at 6pm instead of 7pm.

Lots of people were having difficulties getting home so late and still having to do schoolwork, studying, etc., so the board voted to move the services back an hour.  Hopefully this will give you time to get home after church and get some stuff done earlier.

Remember, this will go into effect for the first time on Wednesday, November 4th.
